David Adderly and Ammani Bengo won the Overall Competition as well as the Primary Category top prize for the Song For 16 schools competition at the National Concert Hall at the weekend. Their song ‘Ireland Is Our Home’ will be now be published and released by Disney Music Group.
The song called ‘Ireland Is Our Home’, (written by David) won through 1,000’s of entries from all over the country to have the opportunity to appear in the finals which took place at the NCH last Sunday. The brief was to write and perform a song celebrating the modern, multi-cultural Ireland of 2016. The song should explore themes such as equality of opportunity, liberty, and the equal cherishing of all of the island’s children; themes that are as relevant today as when spoken of in 1916.
Judging the competition at its final stage were Tony Clayton-Lea, Niamh Farrell of Ham Sandwich, Jack Lukeman, Josh McClorey of The Strypes, Ritch Sibthorpe of Disney Music Group and Riona Sally Hartman.
The Vocal Academy is truly proud of both David and Ammani for their incredible achievement. We saw first hand all of the work they put into this project with which The Vocal Academy had only some minor observations and suggestions. To anybody else, we need only point to David and Ammani as an example of determination, excellent work ethic and practice!
Well done guys!
