Last Tuesday saw the latest instalment of The Leap Sessions at the Salmon Leap Inn. The night had a distinctly International feel to it with musicians from Poland, Germany and Romania all performing for our lovely audience.
Starting proceedings we welcomed Miriam and Lucian who performed three cover songs. With the assistance of Declan Kenny who was to perform his own set later in the evening, Miriam got the crowd going especially with her rendition of Fever.
Next up, Frank Foley gave a wonderful performance of three original songs he has recently recorded at AudioLand Studios. Frank opened up with No Virtuoso, from his new album. We must admit, we were taken aback with these beautiful tunes which will be available on his new album to be released very soon!
Declan Kenny had the stage to himself for to entertain the audience with four tunes. Our favourite was ‘Cool Hand Luke’! It is always and incredible fete to listen to the wonderful chord changes that Declan uses throughout his music. Close your eyes and one could just be taken to some amazing places.
Town & Ship hail from “a small town in Bavaria”. Described on the night as a German version of The Proclaimers, this may sound a bit trite. However, the comparison is definitely in the best sense you could imagine. Benno and Jacob were a highly entertaining duo who literally grabbed the audience by the proverbial short and curly’s, shook them violently and then before putting them back down shook them again. Great energy mixed with superb vocal harmonies, they were a real treat on the night.
To finalise the Session, we were thrilled to welcome Seb Kerrbay from Calm State who travelled all the way over to us from Wicklow. Seb is an exceptional performer and kept the promise on Tuesday night. His set drew our audience in with a fantastic instrumental to kick off with and enthralled us with his incredible vocal throughout. Energy, high notes and guitar technique the author would sell his soul to the devil for!
